Sometimes Your Road Changes

Posted: July 17, 2012 in Announcements

Things are going to go quiet around here for a while. Ever increasing demands of my professional life, and the challenges of parenting a special needs child have left very little time available to generate any useful original content for some time now. Additionally, as a fellow skeptical blogger put it, “the increasingly bitter and divisive struggles happening within skepticism as a movement have exerted a serious downward pressure on my motivation to stay involved.”

Hopefully I will be back in the future with more new content that supports the original mission statement I wrote when I launched this project two years ago. In the mean time I will keep the lights on and continue to administrate the site in the background, moderating comments, clearing spam, and keeping the domain name registered.

Many thanks to you, the readers, for turning out in record numbers over the past few months. This has been an enjoyable project and I am sorry to have to moth-ball it for a while.

You can find me on Twitter (@GearHeadSkeptic) for occasional science, car and skeptic related nonsense, and lots of bad jokes.

See you down the road.

Happy Bloggy-versary

Close enough. (photo credit: CakeWrecks.com)

It’s been one year today since I officially started cluttering up the internet. Help yourself to a piece of imaginary cake and let’s take a very brief and self-indulgent look in the rear view mirror at what has happened around here.

Above all I want to thank you, the readers. Some of you have been here since the start and others are more recent victims guests. As long as you are interested in coming by to see what I have to say, I’ll keep doing this (and probably a little while after that too). Let’s quickly recap our first lap around the sun here at TheGearHeadSkeptic.com:

I am pleased to announce that The Gear Head Skeptic blog has just been added to the SkepticsOnThe.Net directory.  Skeptics On The .Net aims to be the premier directory for the many skeptical blogs, podcasts and forums on the Internet. Just recently launched, it has already developed into a great one-stop-shop and starting point for seeking out skeptical podcasts, blogs and other web resources for either general or niche-specific topics, and their listings continue to grow by the day. I have added a link to this excellent resource in the “science and skepticism” links in the side bar, and I encourage you to add this to your own bookmarks as well.

You can view our listing page here, and begin browsing around for other blogs and podcasts that suit your interests. Many thanks to Skeptics On The .Net for including us in your directory.

A New Look

Posted: June 1, 2011 in Announcements

Hi kids.  Regular readers will no doubt notice the near total overhaul of the look and feel of the blog.  I’m interested to hear what you think about the new look, so click the link to find out more and let your opinion be heard.  (more…)

Want to pick the name for my Chevy? OK, you can name it whatever you want. “Francis”, “The Ham Sandwich”, “Sylvia Browne”, whatever… you pick the name and I’ll paint it on the glove box door. But you have to earn it first.

We’ll be right back…

Posted: January 26, 2011 in Announcements

Hi kids.

Just a heads-up; the frequency of new posts will slow down a little in the next few weeks.  I will be taking advantage of some Alberta Chinook weather to get the Chevy ready for spring, and focus more time into finishing off the next video episode, The Truth About Synthetic Oil.  Don’t worry - I’ll be back with regular features and some new features for 2011 shortly.

In the mean time, browse around the archives for older posts you may not have seen before, and feel free to comment on any of the posts to keep the discussion rolling.

If you need me, I’ll be in the garage wrenching, filming, or both.

Reason’s Greetings

Hey kids, we’ve closed down the garage for a couple weeks over the holidays.  I’ll be back in early January with new posts, regular features and more science, cars and skeptical goodness.

In the mean time, feel free to browse around through the 2010 archives for posts you may have missed, or just enjoy the Yule Log made of crushed Yugos and kindled with copies of The Secret.

Thanks to all the GHS readers and commentors for a great first year.  Enjoy the holidays.
